BEL Hemp

Hemp is experiencing a large revival of interest in Belgium as in many other countries. This plant is used in countless applications. Among others, it is used in construction and insulation, paper, composite materials, textiles, food, mulching, cosmetics... Hemp offers many agronomic and environmental advantages that fit perfectly into a sustainable development logic. Hemp can be considered as one of the most ecological crops. It requires no pesticides and very limited amounts of fertilizer. Moreover, it fits perfectly with organic production methods. Moreover, hemp fixes a considerable amount of CO2 in its biomass at the end of its growth. Some studies report up to 3 tons of CO2 per hectare. Moreover, it is a local industry insofar as its transformation and marketing imply a certain proximity to the production basin. It should be added that hemp seeds (hempseed) and the oil obtained from them have many health benefits. In particular, they offer a balanced content of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids as well as other nutritional elements (proteins, amino acids...). BelChanvre thus intends to take up the challenge of sustainable agricultural diversification and contribute to the full development of hemp for the benefit of Man and the Environment.
