El c\u00e1\u00f1amo puede considerarse uno de los cultivos m\u00e1s respetuosos con el medio ambiente. No necesita plaguicidas ni grandes cantidades de fertilizantes. Adem\u00e1s, se adapta perfectamente a los m\u00e9todos de producci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica. Adem\u00e1s, el c\u00e1\u00f1amo fija una cantidad considerable de CO2 en su biomasa una vez que ha crecido. Algunos estudios hablan de hasta 3 toneladas de CO2 por hect\u00e1rea. Adem\u00e1s, se trata de una industria local, ya que su transformaci\u00f3n y comercializaci\u00f3n requieren una cierta proximidad a la cuenca de producci\u00f3n.
